The Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Chris Bowen MP, today welcomed some 1200 new citizens from 76 countries as South Australia celebrates Australia Day. Across Australia, around 13 700 people from 144 countries are becoming Australian citizens in 365 ceremonies as part of Australia Day celebrations.

  • Minister for Immigration and Citizenship. Andrew Metcalfe is the secretary of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. Mr Metcalfe is currently the President of the Institute of Public Administration Australia (ACT) and is a White Ribbon Ambassador.

  • Minister for Immigration and Citizenship. `Australia Day is a special time for all Australians, whether they are citizens by birth or by choice, to come together to celebrate our common bond,' Mr Bowen said. Across Australia, around 13 700 people from 144 countries are becoming Australian citizens in 365 ceremonies as part of Australia Day celebrations.

George Soros who vigorously supported oversea Myanmar political activists for two decades, is said to fund the production of much anticipated film "General Aung San", who was a national leader and independence hero.

The democracy icon and the Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is the daughter of General Aung San.

The Hungary-born American philanthropist plan to travel to Myanmar on December 23rd, 2011. The Open Society Institute (OSI) is widely known to have dedicated to the democracy movement in Myanmar through Burma Project. He reportedly made contact to a well-known political activist and famous comedian Zaganar about the sponsorship of the movie production.

His arrival to Myanmar and funding of the movie may attract attention of the world and could imply that changes are actually going on in this Southeast Asian nation. His intention of the visit and itinerary is still unknown.
